Lake Maraboon is Aboriginal for `where the black duck fly’. Three and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour. Catchment area for the dam is 15,000 km2, and the capacity of the dam is 1,440,000 megalitres with a coastline of 250km. So close to town, yet so far from it all, Lake Maraboon/Fairbairn Dam is Queensland's second largest lake. Take the opportunity to fish for Yellowbelly, Bream, Cod, Perch and Barramundi, or maybe catch the ever so popular. Redclaw freshwater crayfish all year round.
