American River, a sheltered fishing village is the home of Kangaroo Island Lodge, the Island’s premium hotel. Set on 7acres of landscaped native gardens the Lodge lies on the American River foreshore, where peace and tranquillity prevail. A wildlife haven for native birds & animals, it is also the centre of superb hospitality, great seafood & wine and eco style experiences that only nature can provide. It is not unusual to site grazing wallabies and trails of waterbirds on our foreshore. Black Swans, Cape Barren Geese, Ducks & Australian Pelicans glide under the shallow canopy of native gums, whilst Black Glossy Black Cockatoos, a rare endangered species can be seen along the Lodge’s walking trails.
