This town is famous for the scenery along the river, where nature has carved gorges, some over 130m deep. Over 400 million years ago, a being resembling a 2m long scorpion and called an Eurypterid lived in the area. It may have been the first creature to have walked on land and it left its tracks, which can be seen at the Red Bluff Caravan Park.
