The township is over 125 years old and many historic buildings grace the main street. A mecca for rock climbers as it is close to Mt Arapiles-Tooan State Park. Once the largest town in the district boasting over 70 shops and industries including a flour mill and steel foundry. It was one of the first Victorian towns to have its own electricity supply in 1927.
