Pop 952. (220km NE Melbourne). See map on page 3?9, ref Q12. Scene of the last stand and capture of Ned Kelly. In 1864 the Rowan brothers claimed land in the area and due to the many slopes and glens throughout the environs, Glen and Rowan were attached to form the name Glenrowan. In 1880 the Kelly gang took complete control of the town. A siege began and police prepared for the outcome which left the gang dead except for Ned Kelly. He was later committed for trial in Melbourne and hanged on November 11th, 1880. ACCESS: Car via the Hume Hwy.
