Pop 3,780. (278km N Melbourne). See map on page 7?9, ref J9. Located on the Murray Valley Hwy, adjacent to the Loddon River. Woodford Patchell was Kerang's first settler. Originally from Ireland, he created the township in the 1850s to 60s, by taking up land, irrigating his crop, building an inn and a bridge over the Loddon River. Through this and the establishment of the railway line, the town developed.
