once the first bridge was built in 1879. Today it is a thriving hub and a rural city on the Murray River in South Australia. Murray Bridge has had many names during its time. The local Aboriginal tribe called the area Moop-pol-tha-wong. White man adapted this to Mobilong, but the area was also known as 'Edwards Crossing' & the 'Turn-off' it wasn't until 1924 that the name Murray Bridge became official. Much of this history is captured at the Captains Cottage Museum.
