Pop 231. (133km NE Adelaide). See map on page 12?14, ref B3. Holiday region on the Murray River. Blanchetown evolved as a riverbank loading centre. Established in 1855 and named after Lady Blanche MacDonnell, the Governors wife. Following the increase in river traffic, a railway link was built from Adelaide to Morgan in 1863. Much of the trade was then siphoned away from Blanchetown so the town ceased to expand. Near Blanchetown, the Sturt Hwy crosses the River Murray by bridge. ACCESS: Car via the Sturt Hwy.
