Australind was one of the earliest settlements in the State. It was named by its founders from a contraction of Australia & India, hoping there would be a prosperous trade between the two countries with cavalry horses and food. The town boasts many heritage buildings which historically are valuable reminders of the pioneers from the mid 1800s.
