Founded in 1922, when people in Group No 12, from the Group Settlement Scheme located at the existing well, to be used as their base. In 1923, the railway from Busselton to Margaret River opened, Cowaramup became the distribution centre for the neighbouring group settlers. A general store and butcher shop were also opened in the same year.
