Pop 2,419. (95km W Sydney) Town situated in the central Blue Mountains. Originally known as 'The Swamp' or 'Christmas Swamp', the area became known as '24 Mile Hollow' in the 1830s. When the Blue Mountain Inn opened in the 1840s, the district took on the name of 'Blue Mountain', before being changed to Lawson in 1879, after one of the three explorer's, William Lawson, who first crossed the mountains in 1813.
