The first European settlers to claim Yandilla Station in 1841 were Sir George R and Ralph T Gore. Cecil Plains Station was also claimed in 1841 by Henry Stuart Russell. Edward Walpole established his general store at Back Creek in 1881. The town of Cecil Plains was proclaimed in 1924. The Shire of Millmerran was proclaimed on 24 April 1913.
