Pop 1,336. (2051km N Brisbane, 324km N Cairns) Situated on the Cape York Peninsula on the banks of Endeavour River. It was the port for the Palmer River goldfields. In 1770, James Cook beached the Endeavour here to repair damage after running aground on a coral reef.
